Permitting and Engineering
Do I need a permit to install pallet racks in Las Vegas?
Yes. Clark County and the City of Las Vegas require building permits for pallet rack installations. The permit process includes submitting stamped engineering drawings that show your rack layout, load capacities, and seismic compliance. We handle the entire permit process for you, from drawings to final inspection.
How long does the permitting process take?
Typical permit turnaround in Clark County is 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the jurisdiction and plan review backlog. We submit complete packages with PE-stamped drawings, which reduces the chance of revision requests and keeps the timeline as short as possible.
What are the seismic requirements for pallet racks in Nevada?
Southern Nevada is in Seismic Design Category D, which means rack systems must be engineered to withstand significant ground motion. Our in-house structural engineer calculates seismic loads for every installation and designs anchorage and bracing to meet current building code requirements. This is not optional. It is code.
Do you provide stamped engineering drawings?
Yes. Our PE-licensed structural engineer produces stamped drawings for every permitted installation. These drawings include rack layout, load capacity tables, seismic calculations, and anchorage details. They are required for permit submission and final inspection.
Cost and Pricing
How much does pallet rack installation cost?
Cost depends on the type of rack system, the number of pallet positions, ceiling height, and whether you are buying new or used. A small selective rack project might start around $5,000. A large warehouse fit-out with new racks, engineering, and permitting can run $50,000 or more. We provide free quotes with no obligation.
Is there a charge for the initial site visit?
No. We offer free site visits for projects in the Las Vegas valley. One of our sales team will come to your warehouse, take measurements, assess your needs, and discuss your options. There is no obligation.
Are used pallet racks significantly cheaper than new?
Used racks typically cost 30 to 50 percent less than new, depending on condition and availability. We inspect every used rack before selling it and will not sell anything that does not meet safety standards. Used racks are a great option for many applications, and we will tell you honestly whether they make sense for your project.
Timelines
How quickly can you start an installation?
For projects that do not require a permit (repairs, small modifications), we can often start within a week. For permitted installations, the timeline depends on the permit review period, which is typically 4 to 8 weeks. We begin material procurement and preparation during the permit review so installation starts as soon as the permit is issued.
How long does a typical installation take?
A small to mid-size selective rack installation (20 to 50 bays) usually takes 2 to 5 days of on-site work. Larger projects with multiple rack types or complex configurations take longer. We provide a detailed timeline in every quote so you can plan your operations around the install.
New vs. Used Racks
When should I choose new racks over used?
New racks make sense when you need a specific configuration that is not available in used inventory, when your operation requires exact color matching or branding, or when the load and height requirements push beyond what used racks can safely handle. We carry both and will recommend what fits your situation.
Do you keep used racks in stock?
Yes. We maintain used rack inventory at our North Las Vegas warehouse. Availability varies because it depends on what we acquire from rack removal projects and industry sources. Call us to check current inventory for your specific needs.
Inspections and Safety
How often should pallet racks be inspected?
We recommend a professional rack inspection at least once per year, or more frequently in high-traffic warehouses where forklift impacts are common. Regular inspections catch damaged uprights, bent beams, and missing safety clips before they become serious hazards. We provide detailed inspection reports with photographs and repair recommendations.
What happens during a rack inspection?
Our team walks the entire rack system and documents the condition of every upright, beam, connection, and anchor bolt. We check for plumb and level, verify load capacity signage, and identify any damage or modifications that compromise structural integrity. You receive a written report with photos and prioritized repair recommendations.
Installation Process
Can you install racks in an occupied warehouse?
Yes. We install racks in operating warehouses regularly. Our crew coordinates with your team to section off work areas, minimize disruption to your operations, and maintain safe access for your employees and equipment. We work around your schedule.
Do you handle rack removal too?
Yes. We remove old or damaged rack systems as part of a replacement project or as a standalone service. Removal includes disassembly, hardware collection, and hauling. If the racks are in usable condition, we may offer to buy them back.
Our Qualifications
Are you a licensed contractor?
Yes. Source 4 Industries holds Nevada State Contractor licenses #0039091, #0084699, and #0084700, with a combined license limit of $3.95 million. We are fully insured and have been in business since 1972.
Do you have a structural engineer on staff?
Yes. Our PE-licensed structural engineer works in-house, not as an outside consultant. That means faster turnaround on engineering drawings, direct communication during the design phase, and no markup from a third-party engineering firm.
What areas do you serve?
We serve all of Southern Nevada, including Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Paradise, Summerlin, Spring Valley, Enterprise, and Boulder City. Our warehouse is in North Las Vegas, centrally located to reach any part of the valley.
